Studio Policies
General
Lessons are private, weekly, and 1/2 hour in length. Lessons are taught in the following semesters: January-June and September-December. Summer lessons in July and August may also be offered. Two weeks are given off in December for Christmas; a week is given off for Thanksgiving. Lessons are taught at my home, at 5521 Woodway Dr., Ft. Worth, TX.
TUITION AND PAYMENT
The 2021-2022 monthly tuition rate is as follows:
$80/month with a $30 reg. fee for books and materials.
Payments are made monthly, due at the first lesson each month. Acceptable payment forms are: cash, checks, or PayPal. Checks should be made out to Lisa Polley.
Any accounts unpaid after the second lesson of the month will be assessed a $5 late fee. This should be included in the payment. If an account remains unpaid by the last lesson of the month, lessons will not resume the following month until the account is settled.
CANCELLATIONS and ABSENCES
There is no refund or credit for canceled lessons. Makeup lessons are offered if the cancellation is made according to the following:
– Morning lessons MUST call by 8:00am the morning of the scheduled lesson.
– Afternoon/Evening lessons MUST call by noon the day of the scheduled lesson.
The only exceptions are at my discretion, usually in the case of a serious illness or an emergency. Arrangements for makeup lessons may be made with me if the correct cancellation procedures are used. Makeup lessons are scheduled at a mutually convenient time.
PRACTICE
I will assign the student practice guidelines and goals which are to be followed during home practice sessions. Parents are to ensure that their children are practicing at least five days a week, for about 30 minutes a day. This does not have to be all in one sitting.
LESSON EXPECTATIONS
Be on time
Be courteous: Please enter quietly and wait until it is your turn. You are free to sit on a stool.
Be prepared: Your hands should be clean, nails clipped, hair pulled back from the face. Practice and assignments completed and practice recorded with parent’s signature.
Bring all current music and your assignment book to each lesson.
Be eager to learn: Parents, no matter how much you want your child to learn, I cannot teach them if they are not willing. An uncooperative attitude in a student will result in the lesson concluding immediately that day.
INSTRUMENT EXPECTATIONS
Students must have daily access to a sufficient instrument at home. Acoustic pianos are always best, but some types of digital pianos are sufficient.
Digital pianos MUST:
– have 88 keys that are “weighted” and/or “touch-sensitive”
– have a foot pedal, a music rack, and a bench that sits at proper height for the pianist
Keyboards without ALL of these qualities are not suitable for piano lessons. Families with acoustic pianos must commit to tuning their pianos at least once a year.
DISMISSAL/QUITTING
If no improvement results after a discussion with both the student and his parents, I may dismiss a student for habitual problems with the following: not being prepared for lessons (including inadequate or incomplete practice), late payments/unpaid accounts, lack of interest/effort on the student’s or parent’s part, disrespect, unwillingness to participate/learn during lesson time, etc. I will also dismiss students after three “no shows”. “No shows” occur when you fail to follow the above stated cancellation policy in non-emergency situations (ie, forgetting to call me at all, calling me after 8am/noon).
I require 30 days written notice of intent to withdraw from lessons.
CONTACTING THE TEACHER
If you need to talk to me about how lessons are going, cancel a lesson, or let me know you’re running late, please use one of the following methods: Text or call my cell phone (817)991-9280, or send me an e-mail: l.polleypiano@gmail.com
I have read and agree to uphold the studio policy, as outlined in these pages.
