Music classes resumed with much enthusiasm today!! Did I mention enthusiasm?! In the 6-8yr. class, we played Music Alphabet Scrabble(from Music Mind Games) and Rhythm Note Magnets (from Susan Paradis) and learned about the harp. These activities were on top of our weekly counting w/ the metronome challenge. We only made it to 51 today - still working on reaching 100. This requires a lot of concentration and focus. ( Did I mention enthusiasm?! ) We've also been working on singing and ear training by learning our Do Re Mi's. They are doing well learning the hand signs. You must ask them to sing the song for you. Our favorite part is "La-like a bear claw." : ) And once again, did I mention enthusiasm!?
The 9-12 yr. class played a complete game of Music Alphabet Scrabble, made a Note Pyramid page for our Music Theory notebook, and started our study of the Classical Era. We listened to music by Mozart and Beethoven, learned about the pianoforte, which was introduced during this time period, saw fashionable clothing, art, architecture, and learned that this was the same time that the White House was built. Next week we will begin our composer lapbook. I'm still deciding on who we will study. Beethoven is a favorite choice by some of the students ,but we will see.
I have been exploring ideas for our field trips this session. I will let you know in the next couple of weeks. I hope that everyone will be able to join us.
I am very glad for the enthusiasm of my students to learn about music!!
